Nowadays, rich text editors have become critical infrastructure for AI applications. To help professionals do their work, AI needs to step beyond the chatbot interface and integrate inside real-world documents. However, AI models lack a system to make edits efficiently, understand custom elements like charts and tables, and keep humans in control. Hence, rich text editor libraries, previously the interface between humans and documents, now become the glue that ties AI, documents and humans together. In this talk, Arnau Gómez shares the lessons from building Tiptap, the most downloaded open-source rich text editor library, and turning it into a platform where AI agents collaborate with humans in the same document. Tiptap is used by AI innovators like Cursor, Anthropic, Gamma and Beehiiv, and the insights from this talk come from our experience of helping these companies build production-ready AI systems. Attendees will leave with practical AI engineering patterns for integrating AI inside content workflows.
